A group from the Menorca Britannia Association were privileged to have the opportunity to visit the Sant Antoni estate (Golden Farm) last week. Set on the far side of Maó harbour, the estate, with its magnificent house, is not normally open to the public although, hopefully, this will change once the necessary permissions are received.
The members of Menorca Britannia were given a conducted tour of the grounds and the stately house by the association's recently-elected President, Bryce Lyons, and the estate's owner Iñigo Orbaneja. The house has been in the possession of the Vigo family since the seventeenth century and is historically linked to Admiral Nelson and Lady Hamilton (although the latter never visited Menorca) and other famous figures such as Edward II and Kaiser Wilhelm II.
Members of the public will be able to visit the grounds (but not the house) on Sunday when the Ladies' Choir from the Orfeón Mahonés will give a concert. A ticket-only affair, the 10 euro entrance fee will be donated to the Isla del Rey Foundation.
