Following the intervention of the Island Council of Menorca, the Balearic Port Authorities (APB) have reversed their earlier decision to compulsory purchase homes in Cala Figuera as part of redevelopment plans for the area.
In April it had been announced that properties in this area of the port of Maó would be acquired (by forced purchase if necessary) by the APB. This led to the formation of a group of residents opposed to the idea who appealed to local authorities for help.
Last week the president of the APB, Francesc Triay, confirmed that the plan to acquire properties in Cala Figuera had been discarded and that alternative options would be sought so that the project to create a dry dock, complementary nautical activities and a car park in the area could proceed.
