The owner of Es Molí de Foc Restaurant in Sant Climent has decided to create the first Brew Pub in Menorca and, according to him, in Spain; a Brew Pub being a restaurant or pub that is also a microbrewery producing less than 15,000 barrels per year, of which there are now over 500 in the U.K.
In mid-September Vicent Pla will start alterations to the restaurant's courtyard to create a beer production area where he can brew both ale and lager, the former accounting for 30% of the total production.
The machinery he is purchasing will allow Pla to sterilise bottles and label, fill and cap them, although 60% of the production will be barrelled. He will be able to produce an average of 700 bottles per hour, making an annual total of 52,000 litres, the majority of which will be sold in his own restaurant and two other outlets in Sant Climent.
The lager's name has not yet been released but the ale will be called "In Memoriam Graham Pierce" in homage to his former British partner in the project who died last year. If all goes according to plan the first beer should be on sale mid-January.
