Exchange fair in Maó on Saturday
Organised by Mestral and the ecological group GOB, there will be an Exchange Fair on Saturday, the first of its kind to be held in Menorca.
The idea is that anyone can take along unwanted objects and exchange them for other people's items, with no money changing hands. Any objects that are in good condition can be exchanged: books, records or CDs, games, clothing, food, plants, handicrafts, etc.
Tables and chairs will be provided for anyone wishing to set up a stall.The fair will be held on 25th September in the Plaça Conquesta, Maó from 1000 to 1330 hrs.
Banca March meeting for British residents
An invitation-only meeting is to be held by the Banca March on Thursday, 23rd September in the Hotel Port Mahón at 1700 hrs. This will be conducted in English and is aimed at British residents and property owners, the speaker being José Luis Jiménez Guajardo-Fajardo on "Where are we heading?" The meeting will be followed by drinks and canapes.

Change of venue for Red Cross Craft Group

Car Boot Sales in aid of Club Vidalba
Although El Picadero Restaurant is closed for refurbishment until Bonfire Night, the first of the monthly Car Boot Sales will take place on Saturday, 2nd October from 0900-1200 hrs. Pitch fees are 5 euros which will be donated to Club Vidalba. Bookings through 971 363 268.
Maó and Eroski collect over 170 kgs of food for the needy
In a campaign run by the Municipal Food Bank, Maó Council, the Eroski chain of supermarkets and many residents between them managed to collect over 170 kilograms of food during August. Their efforts should benefit around twenty families in need.
Amongst the items collected for this worthy and ever more needed cause were 40 kgs. rice, 28 kgs. dried pulses, 30 kgs. pasta, five of tinned tomatoes, seven of sugar, 34 litres milk and 16 of oil.
Work to start on new LIDL supermarket this month
The German supermarket chain LIDL is to start work before the end of this month on its second outlet on the island which will be located on the Maó industrial estate, the first being opened in 2008 in Ciutadella. According to the company, the new supermarket will open its doors during the first half of 2011 and will provide jobs for 20 employees.
The plot on Calle Artrutx will accommodate a car park capable of taking 99 vehicles plus the store itself which will measure between 700 and 1,000 sq.m.
