Motorcyclist injured in collision on Me-1
A motorcyclist was injured and required hospital treatment following a collision at km. 24.6 on the Me-1 last Tuesday. The accident, which occurred at around 1830 hrs., involved a Freelander Land Rover, registration 5782 CXK, and a Piaggio 400, registration 0399 FDY, which was a total write-off.
The motorcyclist, 48-year old E.C.E., was taken to the Mateu Orfila Hospital with injuries and multiple bruising but was released the following day.
A breathalyser test on the female driver of the Freelander Land Rover, who was not injured in the accident, proved positive.
AENA plans to raise airport taxes in Spain
AENA (the managing body for Spanish airports) plans to raise airport taxes next year by an average of 4% to 5%, subject to government approval. Between six and ten of the country's largest airports would see increases of 6% or 7% whilst the smaller ones would see a reduction in their taxes.
Endesa moves to new premises in Maó
Endesa's customer services office has now moved to Calle Ciutadella 94, in Maó. The new opening hours are Monday to Friday 0830 to 1900 hrs. with no midday break.
Tortoises sent to repopulate Valencia
The ecological group GOB has sent 280 of the island's tortoises to Valencia to be freed in the Serra de Irta Nature Reserve in order to ensure the survival of the species in the area.
Although the tortoise population in Menorca is in a healthy state, in other places it is in danger of extinction, mainly due to human activities such as the use of pesticides or heavy agricultural machinery, fires or the destruction of the animal's natural habitat through construction.
Tourist spending up in Balearic Islands
According to figures released by the Institute of Tourist Studies, the amount spent by foreign tourists in the Balearics in August totalled 1,774 million euros, an increase of 5.3% on the same period last year. Nationally, the sum spent increased by 6.2% to 6,800 million euros.
