Editorial Menorca's Sant Antoni Dinner

| Maó |

Grupo Editorial Menorca, the group which publishes the "Menorca" newspaper, recently held its annual Sant Antoni Dinner in the Exhibition Centre on the Maó industrial estate. Well-attended by 450 people from the political and sporting scenes, the island's clubs and associations, companies, personnel from the "Menorca" and private individuals, the dinner offers the opportunity to present the various prizes awarded by the newspaper. This year the ceremony was hosted by journalist Rosa Carreras, who produces "Xoc", the children's supplement published every Wednesday in the "Menorca", and actor Jordi Odrí.

The first prizes were awarded to journalists in different categories: Juliette Tudurí and Gemma Camiña shared the Mateu Seguí Puntas prize for the best article, aimed at encouraging creativity amongst youngsters; Ricardo Álvarez was awarded the Domingo Marqués prize for photography; and Miquel Mariano took the 'Andreu Casasnovas' award for the best interview.

The prizes for the 'Protagonistas de la Vida Menorquina' (leading figures in Menorcan Life and voted for by readers of the "Menorca") were presented next. The sporting category was won by the Club de Volei Ciutadella (Ciutadella Volleyball Club).

The priest Father Vicente Macián, well known to many residents through the many years he served as hospital chaplain, was awarded the prize in the Cultural Life section. Although unable to attend in person due to ill health, Father Macián sent a message via video, acknowledging the unexpected prize and thanking everyone.

The ALBA association (women who fight against breast cancer) took the Social Activities section and, finally, the Economic Activities prize went to Benito Reynés, the Director of Náutica Reynés, for 75 years of business success.

One of the surprises of the night was a giant cake in the shape of the island of Menorca, decorated with a drawing by Zaca (the "Menorca's" cartoonist) and 70 candles, marking the seventieth anniversary of the "Menorca" newspaper this year.

For the first time a draw was held - and one of the prizes was won by the President of the Island Council!

The dinner, which was served by the Royal Restaurant, was part of the "A euro from the Heart" campaign, with one euro from every meal going to the charity Caritas.
